Firefighters understand what "coverage" means to a sprinkler system (sprinkler heads everywhere to react immediately in the event of fire).
The concept of "coverage" also applies to smoke detectors (a detector in each bedroom, each level, basement room, garage, etc) as smoke anywhere in the home has a direct path to a detector. Doors, walls,& ceilings dictate sprinkler head locations and smoke detector locations too. You can't have an effective sprinkler system unless it provides coverage to the entire building.
A smoke alarm system must cover the entire building to provide effective warning of smoke. Complete "coverage" is essential for both systems. With today's wireless smoke detector technology, fire safety in a home is maximized.
